RESEARCH GEOSCIENTIST

Location: Rijswijk, Netherlands or Houston, USA
Job Description: The Play Trap and Search Engine R&D team has a highly successful record of producing innovative seismic interpretation and data analysis tools. The team requires a new member to add to its collection of expertise in stratigraphy, structural geology, mathematics and physics. The team is starting a new phase in its program to build the next generation of subsurface interpretation tools that will be linked with research in stratigraphic forward modeling, quantitative interpretation, and trap analysis.
The team is highly integrated, therefore it requires a researcher who can multi-task and contribute across a variety of projects. However, the successful applicant will be expected to lead or significantly contribute to his/her own subproject. This is not a team for a solitary researcher and you will be expected to be proactive.
The successful applicant will typically be involved in research that spans fundamental geologic research to product development (possibly including algorithm research and development), software design, product testing, and software rollout.
Key accountabilities include:

* Playing a major role in the generation of novel subsurface analysis tools
* Potential to manage software development, from initial concept to final commercial product
* Perform project work (seismic interpretation) for operating units, to test and market new tools
* Engage operating units for research drivers and ideas, as well as test data
* Take part (or lead) in rollout of research products (teaching and mentoring)

Qualification: Geophysics or Geology PhD preferred (physics or mathematic degrees considered).
Skills: Blend of geologic and numerical skills; strong research skills; experience in the energy industry, with a strong foundation in seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy and structural geology; experience in software development, either as a programmer or in concept design, execution and development; innovative thinker; a willingness to think beyond the possible; effective communication skills
Additional skills (not specifically a requirement): Software programming skills (C, FORTRAN, MATLAB, etc); mathematical skills or at least a familiarity with concepts
